The guys’ hands-on performances, choreographed by Alison Faulk, are enthusiastic and energetic, if not always polished, with indelible set pieces like the part-Singin’ in the Rain, part-Matrix treatment of “It’s Raining Men” that introduces us to the act. For a character like Dolemite, so deeply rooted in the Blaxploitation era of the ’70s and frankly riddled with so many stereotypical elements, Murphy succeeds by being earnest, even when delivering Dolemite’s raunchiest lines. All About Nina functions well as a profile of its lead, and her past (at first unspoken) trauma, and how the things she’s lived through have shaped her as both a woman and as a comic. He assumes the character of Dolemite, a sharp, vulgar pimp who oozes confidence, and the “new” material kills in local clubs. It is also obvious from one of the first lines in the film (“Guys, I need Cox!”) that this project neither takes itself too seriously nor asks the same of its viewers. This is the time to catch up, though, as TV’s most dysfunctional family has made its home on Netflix. That’s right, Sheila returns from the dead as a living zombie, retaining her mental faculties but suffering an insatiable desire for human flesh. The first-time co-direction from onscreen performer Terry Jones (who only sporadically directed after Python broke up) and lone American Terry Gilliam (who prolifically bent Python’s cinematic style into his own unique brand of nightmarish fantasy) moves with a surreal efficiency.

Pickle Rick was an inescapable social media sensation for weeks on end, while the fandom spilled out into the wider world when a McDonald’s publicity stunt involving a limited release of Szechuan sauce – featured in the show – sparked riots across the US with police called to multiple restaurants after the condiment ran out of stock, much to the fury of queuing fans.
It’s one of the best showcases for Black’s peculiar talents. For a compelling blend of comedy and drama, look no further than the superb Netflix originals Sex Education and BoJack Horseman, or stick Friends on again for the ultimate comfort watch.
There’s a vibe of The Office (US version) throughout as the 99th precinct engages in just about every activity possible outside of their professional remit. And maybe the one true through line of history is that stupid people will always follow stupid people, whistling on the way to our meaningless, futile deaths. Being John Malkovich admits, with sad clarity, that our lives are totally out of our control. It’s the story of a spoilt, once-wealthy family who continue their lavish lifestyle despite the fact they can no longer afford it. As a former beauty-queen pageant struggling to raise her plus-size daughter, Aniston delivers one of her finest performances — complete with a stellar Texan accent, too. When they finally meet on the observation deck, the theme from An Affair to Remember swells, setting the mood for anyone with an appreciation for good rom-coms.
This is what I mean when I say that this stuff is weird: Back to the Future left Netflix at the end of July. Created by Rick and Morty’s Dan Harmon, Community follows an eclectic group of Greendale community college students led by fraudulent lawyer Jeff Winger (Joel McHale) as they try to complete their diplomas whilst becoming involved in ridiculous shenanigans. Iannucci asks us to laugh at an era not known for being especially funny. But none of those films embraced the genre and all its tropes quite like the latest from Leslye Headland does.
The Disney princesses scene is the highlight. Seriously, you should watch it right now. This vibrant musical is one of the most upbeat movies on Netflix's roster, and is bound to leave you in a good mood. It’s definitely been on the streamer since I took the comedy section over in 2015, and has been on every single one of these lists I’ve made since. Colin Farrell and Rachel Weisz are great, but Olivia Colman is even better. Was £208 per room per now now only £79 Lockdown comedy Staged, starring Michael Sheen and David Tennant as fictionalised versions of themselves, was a real joy – and probably the best example of TV made during the height of lockdown.
